Cloudburst Alpine via Chance Creek Road [PDF]

General Trail Info

Name of the trail

Cloudburst Alpine via Chance Creek Road

Overview

Access to Cloudburst Mountain when there is lots of snow. There is no trail, and is a nasty bushwhack without snow

Trail can be used for the following activities

Backcountry skiing

Directions to the trailhead

Drive North on the Whistler Highway, past the Cheakamus Canyon and the yellow winter gate on the Highway. There is a bridge across the Cheakamus River. Drive the Chance Creek road as far as you can. In Winter the Chance Creek road is a cat track used by 'bilers and the large snowcats taking people up Tircouni. None of these folks will appreciate a tired vehicle using the road. I have parked by the railroad tracks and skied the road to the beginning of the bushwhack, or drive it as far as you can when it is melted out.

Detailed description of the trail

See the associated GPS track. It shows the route up the bushwhack from the end of the Chance Creek Road to the open alpine bowls. I will provide a the series of waypoints to make this a GPS route as soon as that feature is available at this site.

Note: there are several routes to the Cloudburst alpine, including a new shorter route via the logging road near High Falls Creek on the Squamish River side of the divide.

Currently the 'bilers, the snowcats and the heli-skiers do not use Cloudburst.
